Woman charged after allegedly abusing crew on flight

UPDATE: 5.15PM: VIRGIN Australia have released a statement in the wake of an in-air incident on a flight from Sydney to Hervey Bay on Thursday.

Police were called to Hervey Bay airport about 11.25am after a woman allegedly yelled abuse at Virgin crew during the flight.

A Virgin spokeswoman said the matter was not in the hands of police and said for privacy reasons the company did not comment publicly on individuals.

"The safety of our guests and our employees remains our number one priority," she said.

"As stated in our Conditions of Carriage - which are accepted at the time of booking - guests must behave in a manner which does not disturb or cause offence to fellow passengers and they must show respect to our employees, including our flight crew."

Hervey Bay police have charged a woman with creating a disturbance on an airplane and obstructing police.

She will appear in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court at a later date.

EARLIER: A WOMAN has been charged after allegedly yelling abuse and swearing at cabin crew on a flight from Sydney to Hervey Bay on Thursday.

Hervey Bay police Senior Constable Tony Watherston said police were asked by the captain to meet the Virgin flight at the tarmac at about 11.25am.

When the plane landed, passengers were asked to wait on board for about ten minutes before being able to disembark.

The woman was charged with disorderly conduct on an airplane and obstructing police.

The woman will appear in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court at a later date.
