Woman dies after car crashes into tree near Rolleston

POLICE are at the scene of a fatal traffic crash that happened west of Rolleston on Saturday morning.

Initial information indicates around 7.30am a car was travelling on the Dawson Highway when, for unknown reasons, it left the roadway and crashed into a tree.

Police attended and attempted to perform CPR on a female passenger for an extended period but were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The male driver and a second female passenger were uninjured.

The Emerald Forensic Crash Unit has begun an investigation into the incident.

The woman's death was the second road fatality in the region in just over 12 hours, with the Forensic Crash Unit investigating a fatal traffic crash near Sapphire, west of Emerald.

Initial investigations indicate a vehicle rolled on the Anakie Sapphire Road about 7.50pm on Friday.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
