Woman dies in highway crash requiring two rescue choppers

BREAKING NEWS:  IT has been confirmed a woman has died in a crash near Stanthorpe this afternoon.

Emergency services crews are on the scene of a fatal crash at the intersection of Whiskey Gully Road and the New England Highway, south of Stanthorpe.

Another 25-year-old woman is trapped in one of the three vehicles involved in the crash, which occurred about 3pm.

She is in a critical condition sustaining head and chest injuries, while a 38-year-old woman is being treated for chest injuries.

Two RACQ CareFlight helicopters are on their way to the scene, with ambulance crews also treating a number of walking wounded people at the scene.

A number of emergency crews from Stanthorpe and Warwick are on the scene.

Diversions are in place but motorists are advised to avoid the area.
