Woman finds no comfort in bottle of Southern so she rampages

DRINKING a full bottle of Southern Comfort was a bad idea for Sophie Anne Avenell.

It led to a rampage of destruction that resulted in her being sentenced in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court to 12 months of probation and having to repay more than $3500 in damages.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Jeanette Grigoris said Avenell, 21, ran amok on Bowerbird Ave in Eli Waters on April 12 after consuming the bottle of liquor.

Avenell smashed a fencepost into three vehicles before taking off on foot from the scene, Snr Const Grigoris said.

The court heard a witness called the police and followed Avenell to keep an eye on her.

Avenell was found covered in mud, after having a conversation with an imaginary person in a storm drain, Snr Const Grigoris said.

Avenell said she had no recollection of the incident at all.

She was ordered to pay $3672.20 in compensation for damage to one of the vehicles, while the owners of the other two cars did not seek restitution, the court heard.

Avenell was also given a 12 month probation order.
