INTERNATIONAL Women's Day will be held tomorrow, but for Inglewood superwoman Ann McGlashan every day is a day to be proud of what women can achieve.

As a woman on the front line, Mrs McGlashan is involved in several community organisations including the Inglewood State Emergency Services (SES), ambulance committee, the hospital auxiliary and is part of the driver reviver program.

Mrs McGlashan said she has always been a volunteer and involved in the community on one level or another.

"I suppose it's because I had always been a part of the school P&C and sporting clubs as the kids were growing up so when I was looking for something new to do someone suggested the SES and that's what I did," Mrs McGlashan said.

"I joined the SES in 2006 and took over as the local controller in July 2008.

"I must admit I went into the role blind and planned to do it until someone else was found but I'm still here."

As part of her SES duties Mrs McGlashan has attended the scenes of numerous traffic accidents and has helped with flood efforts in Texas, Goondiwindi and was part of the search team in Grantham.

In January 2011, Mrs McGlashan was awarded an Achievement Medallion at the Department of Community Safety Australia Day Awards in Toowoomba.

Mrs McGlashan said it took a while for the enormity of the award to set in.

"It was amazing. At the time I didn't really realise what I was getting and it took a little while to sink it once I read the pamphlet," she said.

"It is a big award to receive but because you enjoy doing the work you don't expect the recognition."

International Women's Day celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of all women.
