Women charged over street attack

TWO young women will front the Stanthorpe Magistrates Court later this month after allegedly punching another woman on New Year's Eve.

Stanthorpe police discovered the incident while reviewing CCTV footage of Victoria St.

The footage showed a 22- and 23-year-old woman repeatedly punching a 19-year-old woman.

The victim told police she was attacked by the two women but she did not want to file an assault complaint.

Police subsequently charged both women with being a public nuisance and it was the only major incident on New Year's Eve.

New Year's Day proved a little busier for Stanthorpe police with drug charges and a drink driving charge laid.

An alleged drink driver was pulled over by police on High St, where he allegedly blew 0.084 in a breath test.

A 17-year-old woman was charged with possessing dangerous drugs and utensils after police checked out a Symes St address.

It was the second drug related incident for Stanthorpe police that week, after a 40-year-old truck driver was allegedly found to have amphetamines inside the cab of his vehicle.

The man was arrested at Thulimbah and charged with possessing dangerous drugs.

Last Tuesday morning a man sustained a fractured arm after being involved in a car crash at the Stanton and Folkestone St intersection.

Both vehicles were driven by international drivers and investigations found that one of the drivers drove through the intersection without giving way.

On Sunday night a B-double driver managed to escape injury when his truck rolled on the New England Hwy at Stanthorpe. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which ended up on its side.

The truck came to rest off the road so there were only minor traffic delays.
