Women fly the Water Rats flag high yet again but men lose

RUGBY UNION: The Warwick Water Rats went down 34-10 to USQ in round 1 of B-grade rugby union on Saturday at Gatton.

Warwick is playing B grade on the same program as the Gatton A-grade side this season

The Water Rats trailed 12-5 at half-time. Jacob Wilton-Johnson and Jacob Brookman scored the tries for Warwick.

Coach Vlad Savovski rated second rower Darcy Meek, fullback Josh Sharman and halfback Joseph Levick as his best.

"Our forwards dominated the scrum, ruck and lineouts but we lost two backs with injuries which didn't help,” he said.

Flyhalf Max Hall will be out of a month with a shoulder injury and inside centre Lane Topa will miss four or six weeks of footy after being taken to hospital on Saturday with concussion before being released that night.

The women beat USQ 12-0 and scored a 17-12 win against Gatton but unfortunately neither game was for competition points. Tshinta Kendall, Leanne Brown, Sam Burton and Lisa Croft were four of the best for Warwick.

Warwick plays Rangers at 7pm Friday at Risdon Oval in B grade. Warwick will play Bears in a women's games before and after the men's game.
