Wonder weekend for all the green thumbs
ARE you a bit of a green thumb?
This weekend gives you the perfect opportunity to explore some of the best gardens on the Southern Downs.
Regency Park Retirement Village has award-winning gardens in both exotics and natives, and is open all weekend for you to discover.
The whole of Regency Park is linked with a walking trail which is wheelchair friendly, and this brings us to the third category of gardens.
The walking trail links a dozen spectacular, themed gardens which have the dual purpose of beauty and practicality.
Beauty is obviously important. Everyone feels their spirits lifted in a beautiful garden, but practicality is also important.
Many of the themed gardens have seats where you can chat with people you meet on the trail.
A couple have bathrooms incorporated should you be out on the trail longer than expected, and a couple incorporate barbecues for street functions.
A very special garden on the trail is one to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the release of the movie The Wizard of Oz.
Residents and the management team at Regency Park pulled together to create the Wizard of Oz garden.
Click your heels together and follow the yellow brick road through the Munchkin Village to the Emerald City, meeting the Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Lion along the way.
Residents Nick Perquin and Col Willi have been hard at work for months on the construction and painting of the Munchkin Village. The men drew inspiration from the original book, as well as the movie.
Tomorrow Sue Hoffman from Warwick's Gardens Galore also will be giving a talk at 11am about the plants in Regency park.
Regency Park is located at 5 Regency Drive, Warwick. The gardens will be open from 10am until 4.30pm.
It's just $7 to get in.
