Woolies ditching plastic bags earlier than expected

GET your green bags ready, Woolworths in Warwick will stop dishing out the plastic variety on June 20.

A state-wide ban of single-use plastic bags is coming into effect on July 1, but the supermarket giant has decided to enforce the rule earlier than expected.

The changes will not only affect customers shopping at Woolworths supermarkets, but also BWS and Woolworths petrol stations.

If you forget your reusable bag at home, you can buy one for 15 cents in store or opt for a canvas bag costing 99 cents.

Western Australia will also be enforcing a ban on single-use plastic bags from July, following concerns that they are harmful to the environment and marine life.
