Woolly windows: New Jumpers and Jazz competition announced
FOR the first time, the woolly Jumpers and Jazz spirit will make its way from our tree-jumper lined streets to inside Warwick businesses this July.
A new addition has been added to Warwick's quirky festival, with the Jumpers and Jazz committee announcing it will hold a business window competition.
Jumpers and Jazz in July Inc volunteer co-ordinator Clare McHugh Von Stieglitz said the competition was established because businesses around Warwick were eager to be more involved in the festival.
"Businesses get the first crack at having the tree nearest to them, it's always been done that way, but that sometimes means next door misses out," she said.
"So if you've got a lovely window it would get you back involved."
With only three weeks until the start of the festival, Mrs McHugh Von Stieglitz said businesses could make their displays as large and creative as they liked.
"You don't need to do your entire shop, you can do a metre square in your front windows," she said.
"If you want to put together some tea cosies and a sign it'll be adorable and it'll count."
Recycled objects were also becoming more popular as part of Jumpers and Jazz displays, she said.
"Obviously knitting and crochet is right up there but people have used recycled things, such as collecting pine cones and painted them," she said.
Three prizes are up for grabs in the competition, including a voucher for a two-night stay at Girraween Environmental Lodge, $100 from Warwick Credit Union, and a wicker picnic set.
Entrants are able to decorate their own window or consider borrowing a window in an empty store.
Designs need to be completed by July 18.
