Workshop to promote alternative health remedies
ASK Catherine Cazaly to whip out her first aid kit, and the registered nurse is bound to ask "which one?"
She has her traditional kit with bandaids, strapping tape and more, and her pantry - the latter of which she tries to use in the first instance wherever she can.
As health ministries leader of the Warwick Adventist Church, Mrs Cazaly is a fan of natural remedies and alternatives and swears by them.
So much so, she has organised a lifestyle coach to come to the Rose City to host a workshop, open to the whole community.
"She is very good - she covers topics from natural nasal sprays to drinks and gives out recipes that people can use," Mrs Cazaly said.
Jana Meldt from Brisbane will host the day workshop that will cover alternative methods to treat colds, blocked noses, heart pain and infections, through to stopping the urge to smoke.
"I think as a society, we have turned away from natural alternatives because we want that quick fix with antibiotics and medicines," Mrs Cazaly said.
"Prescription medicines can and do work well, but it's the affects some of them can have on your body that's worrying."
She said natural remedies generally took longer to work, but had much greater long-term benefits.
"Plus a lot of normal medicines you can't give to little kids, but the natural ones you can," she said.
The workshop runs on Sunday, July 14, from 10am-12pm and 1-3pm.
You can do both sessions, or just one, and cost is just $20 for both which includes two workbooks full of recipes and good tips.
Attendees are encouraged to bring some lunch for the break between sessions, and it will be held at the Adventist Church on 113 Fitzroy St.
