Workshops stopping school squabbles
KIDS can often be slow to acknowledge their part in a schoolyard conflict.
The School of Total Education will address accountability when they host presenter and consultant Margaret Thorsborne on May 19.
"In any situation of conflict you want to do more than just punish the wrongdoer, you want to use the situation to educate both people involved in a dispute," said school principal, Shane Power.
"Children often don't see the impact they're having on others," he said.
"So this sort of practice helps teach things like accountability, responsibility and also empathy to students, because they're encouraged to look at the situation from the other person's point of view."
A former teacher and counsellor, Ms Thorsborne's approach is about holding people directly accountable for their actions.
She will conduct a workshop at the school for teachers and youth professionals, such as psychologists and social workers, from 1.30 to 3.30pm.
A second workshop on managing relationships at home will be open to all Warwick parents from 6.30pm, while SOTE students will attend morning workshops.
