Wynnum leads Warwick league carnival with three rounds left

RUGBY LEAGUE: Wynnum is the only unbeaten team after four rounds of the zone 5 under-43kg carnival in Warwick.

Macintyre was unbeaten in the first three rounds before going down 12-0 to Wynnum in the last game on Tuesday.

Balonne Barwon have been the giant killers of the competition, with a team which has players from the St George area and south to Lightning Ridge in New South Wales.

Two of the three Balonne Barwon wins have been by two points. They beat Western Downs 16-14 on Tuesday morning and then Warwick and Southern Downs 22-20 on Tuesday afternoon.

Central Downs also has three wins but must beat Wynnum today at 9.50am to be in contention for first.

Wynnum player Jack O'Toole said the team's toughest game was against the Macintyre side.

"I love playing in this carnival, which is my second,” he said.

Teammate Taine Hancox has enjoyed the chance to be billeted with parents from the Warwick and Southern Downs area.

"I have been doing some motorbike riding and chasing wild pigs,” he said.

Twenty-eight games will be played at Father Ranger Oval this week and then City and Country teams will be selected for a game at 12.30pm on Friday, the last of the carnival.

Sam Wainwright won the sprint in yesterday's athletics.

The first game on Wednesday is Warwick/Southern Downs against Western Downs at 9am.
