Reality TV gives Coast tourism hotspots national exposure

THE Sunshine Coast is receiving national exposure alongside some of the world's better-known hotspots on a top-rating reality TV show.

Noosa's Makepeace Island is being featured on Channel 7's talent search show The X Factor alongside New York, Los Angeles and London.

The show, which claims an average of 1.5 million viewers each episode, first featured Makepeace Island on Sunday night as the internationally renowned surprise location for one category of finalists. The exposure continued last night and will come to an end tonight.

In a deal put together with Tourism and Events Queensland and Sunshine Coast Destinations Ltd, six X Factor finalists were taken to the heart-shaped island with judge Natalie Bassingthwaite and special guest judge Guy Sebastian.

Makepeace Island is the private hideaway of Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Australia co-founder Brett Godfrey and is located upstream from Noosa itself.

Sir Richard said he was delighted to play host to the finalists.

"Having previously welcomed the X Factor team to Necker Island, it's exciting that my Australian home was selected as one of their 2013 Home Visit destinations," he said.

SCDL chairman Barrie Adams said it was an honour to feature alongside other world-class destinations.

"We're thrilled the Sunshine Coast will be showcased to millions of viewers during the three special episodes."
