Warwick's xmas shoppers wait

YESTERDAY was tipped to be one of the biggest online shopping days of the year, as people all over the country rushed to buy their list of gifts in order to receive them before Christmas.

With this new technology and the explosion of online shopping from the comfort of your home, retailers have noticed a marked shift in Christmas shopping habits over the past few years.

Kevin Jee, owner of Warwick's Fun Plus phone repairs and accessories store in the Rose City Shopping Centre said he has definitely noticed a change in shopping patterns over previous years.

"I also have another shop in Brisbane and at both stores Christmas has felt a bit different this year," he said.

"We're expecting a rush in the last week, which would be similar to what happened last year."

Mr Jee said some his best sellers at Christmas time were phone cases, mini speakers and clocks.

John Walsh from Warwick Watchmakers and Jewellers said business had been ok so far this Christmas season.

"There are still 14 shopping days until Christmas and it seems these days that Christmas shopping is predominately in the last week," he said.

"We are fairly fortunate that we're in a quite different field to other retailers in Warwick in that almost all of our products are gifts.

"Our Pandora range is always a big seller but becomes massive at this time of year.

"Beads, bracelets, pendants, earrings, rings and watches are traditionally good sellers at Christmas time for us."

Toyworld Warwick owner Peter Tansky echoed the sentiments of other retailers in the Warwick CBD.

"In days gone by Christmas shopping used to be a gradual thing, but now it's turned into more of a last minute thing," he said.

"At the moment we're sitting similarly to last year, but we won't really know how good a month it's been until that last week before Christmas."

In the toy business Mr Tansky said the Schleich range was really popular in Warwick.

"Kids love the Baby Born dolls, Transformers, Spiderman, and Nerf toys are always very popular at this time of year."
