Yangan puts on event to impress

PEOPLE from all across the region threw on their Wranglers at the weekend, strapped on their boots and rang in the new year... country style.

Close to 1000 people packed into the Yangan Hotel Motel grounds on Saturday evening to indulge in some rodeo action before farewelling 2011.

The New Year's Eve Rodeo - a first for Yangan - followed a ute muster at the Yangan Sports Ground earlier in the afternoon.

The action in the ring got under way about 6.30pm and spectators enjoyed a fully catered bar and hot food all night.

Redland Bay visitors Elaine and Jimmy O'Brien said the rodeo was the perfect event to end their Rose City holiday.

"The kids have never been to a rodeo before and we just thought it would be a great thing to do before we go home," Mrs O'Brien said.

Tannymorel kids Mitchell and Cody Muller didn't settle for sitting on the sidelines on Saturday, opting instead to throw themselves into the heart of the action.

Both braved the danger of the arena and signed up for a shot at the mutton busters title.

"I'm going to get on a sheep and my pop is going to be here to watch," Cody said.

Warwick man John Brearley travelled to Yangan for the event with his grandson, Staunch Johnston.

"Staunch has only been to one rodeo before and he flies back to Tully on Monday so we thought we would come out," Mr Brearley said.
