New Year's Eve: Yangan rodeo will be a ripper
ENTRIES have been flooding in for this year's Ray Bunch Machinery New Year's Eve Rodeo at Yangan and organiser Vanessa Butler said it would be the biggest one yet.
Tonight's event will be the third annual rodeo at the Yangan Hotel and Mrs Butler said she was really looking forward to it.
"There has been a lot more response this year," she said.
"The phone has been ringing flat chat with nominations.
"I think it will be the biggest and best one yet."
Mrs Butler and others on the organising committee have been working for months to organise the event, which includes everything from poddy rides to an open bull ride.
At the time of print yesterday Mrs Butler said there had been 10 entered in the steer ride, four in the junior bull rude, 12 in the novice and three in the open bull.
"But there are still more nominations coming and others being confirmed," she said.
"This year is the first time we are having a ladies steer ride as well.
"We should get a really good crowd as well."
There are some pretty cool cash prizes up for grabs as well, including $100 in the Warwick Credit Union Poddy Ride, $200 in the Total Eden Steer Ride and $1500 in the Carey Bros Open Bull Ride.
Warwick contractor Frank Biddle will supply the bulls for the open bull ride, novice and junior bull rides.
McIvor Brothers will supply the steers, Pat McConville the calves for the poddy ride and Angus Gross the sheep for the mutton busters.
The mutton busters event is open to children aged six and under, the poddy ride for seven to 13-year-olds and teenagers aged 14-17 will take to the ring in the junior steer ride.
There will be a range of kids activities, a mechanical bull and a barbecue to ensure the whole family has a great night out.
Those travelling to Yangan from Warwick will be able to grab a ride on the courtesy bus, which will leave from Warwick Town Hall at 5pm tonight.
Patrons keen to travel on the bus are asked to call the Yangan Hotel on 4664 8213 to make a booking.
The bus will run return trips to Warwick from 10pm.
Nominations for the bull rides and junior steer rides closed yesterday but Mrs Butler said they would take late nominations if there was enough stock.
Poddy ride, mutton busters and ladies steer ride competitors can enter at the rodeo tonight.
