School welcomes new principal, teacher
YANGAN State School has kicked off a new year, welcoming a new principal and teacher to the school.
Starting his career in Brisbane, Joey Campbell has been a principal in other small schools for three years, and teacher Lisa Holden brings her 17 years of classrom experience to the job.
Both said they were happy to join the staff and close-knit school community.
"Being a principal in small schools can be difficult but the staff here are so detailed in their planning and caring for the kids so that's already so rewarding," Mr Campbell said.
"The unique thing about small schools is the community and parent support the parents sing such high praises of the school."
Ms Holden returned to Australia eight years ago after teaching in the US, and said she enjoyed the slower pace of the school.
"I've come from a school with 800 students to 80 so it's nice to slow down," she said.
"I moved to Warwick with my partner and have been trying to get a transfer for a while and Yangan is perfect for me - it's where I belong."
"We're absolutely spoilt with support here," Mr Campbell said.
"Teaching in a lot of small schools you have the luxury of one to 10 classroom ratio, and virtually full time support, which you don't get at bigger schools."
