Year 12 students face QCS test

SENIOR students were yesterday biting their nails as they prepared to take the test to help them reach their study goals to get them on track for their careers.

The two-day Queensland Core Skills (QCS) test for Year 12 students began across the State this morning, with Warwick State High School (WSHS) students nervous but ready for the challenge.

“We will be glad to get it done, it will definitely be a relief,” Brendan Thompson said.

Fellow students Cassie McCosker, Mitch Siebenhausen and Harriet Rolfe all agreed the thought of two days putting their knowledge to the test after 12 years of education was daunting.

The test is for senior students, 80 of whom attend WSHS, who want to be eligible for an OP to gain entry into tertiary education. It includes four papers compromising a writing task, short-response and two multiple-choice papers.

The four students were daunted by the thought of the writing task which they felt needed the most work after experiencing their practice exams during the year.

Brendan, who wants to study business and Harriet, hoping to gain entry to a medicine degree, are both aiming to reach an OP under 5.

Single digits are also the aim for Mitch to reach his dream of teaching physical education and for Cassie, who hopes to study interior design or journalism.

The students were looking forward to Thursday when Brendan said they would be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel of their high school education.
