Year 9 kids take charge at running the school

THERE was a change of roles at the School of Total Education on Tuesday as Year 9 students tried their hand at running the school.

The 10 students had three shifts throughout the day in a range of roles from reception to teaching and the top job of school principal.

Principal Shane Power said the day was about challenging the students and encouraging them to be more responsible.

"The students really get to see what is involved with running the school," he said.

"I think it's quite eye opening for them."

Among the students working around the school was Ellie Douglas, who spent her morning as a receptionist.

"I thought it'd be a bit different - I like the paperwork," she said.

"I wouldn't mind working as a receptionist - it's pretty fun."

The program has been running for a number of years at the school, with students performing tasks including answering phones and planning lessons.
