Years of service to club is rewarded
ARTHUR Maynard has been awarded life membership of the Warwick Combined Probus Club.
At the February meeting, club president George Dayus commended Arthur for his contribution during his terms as president and in several positions on the management committee.
Arthur is a foundation member of the club which was formed in July 2003.
He guided the club through the process of incorporation and has joined many of the excursions and social activities organised by the club.
He established the club database of member records and is currently treasurer and publicity officer.
Warwick Daily News general manager Bruce Partridge was guest speaker at the club's first meeting for 2013.
Bruce spoke of the challenges facing the press when competing with social media and internet technology.
He recommended consumers remain alert to check the accuracy and timeliness of information which is instantly available through handheld devices.
Ralph Lowe was welcomed as the newest member of the club.
The club has arranged a coach trip to Brisbane for guided tours of the Asia Pacific Triennial exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art, and the Grass Dukes and Shepherd Kings exhibition at the State Library of Queensland.
The APT display includes artworks and installations created by artists in countries within Eastern Asia and the Pacific.
The State Library exhibition showcases the development of farming on the Darling Downs and features Glengallan Homestead.
Members then have ample opportunity to explore both exhibitions and displays at the Queensland Art Gallery.
Future activities include excursions to Legally Blonde, Ten Tenors, Opera in the Vineyards, the Probus caravanning and camping outings in Stanthorpe and Biloela and a mystery bus tour to be held in March.
