Warwick pays tribute to our hard working police

YESTERDAY Warwick paused to remember the police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty and honour those who continue to pull on their uniforms each day.

There are few people who face the level of danger our boys and girls in blue face each day.

Although Warwick is a relatively small community with comparatively low crime rates, our local officers do endure some awful things in their line of work.

Having been a court reporter has really opened my eyes to the danger the region's police officers face.

As I've sat in the Warwick courtroom I've heard about policemen and women being bitten by offenders' dogs, punched, kicked, scratched and spat on while they are doing their jobs.

In addition to the vast physical dangers, they are also required to see and hear many disturbing things, as they investigate child abuse, sexual assaults and other heinous crimes.

But they continue to do the work because they are making a difference. They are placing themselves in harm's way each day so criminals can be removed from our society and our streets made safer.

From the team at the Daily News, we thank all the members of the Queensland Police for their service.

You are true heroes in our community.
