Young artist opens up for Warwick art exhibition

FINDING inspiration can be a difficult part of the process for many young artists but for Warwick student Ceilidh Bishop, inspiration can be found in the smallest detail.

A photograph taken by Ms Bishop of a cigarette butt on a footpath drew the attention of Warwick Art Gallery director Karina Devine.

The photograph featured in the Southern Downs Regional Artists Exhibition in April and inspired Ms Devine to invite the young artist to hold an exhibition of her work in the gallery.

This Thursday at 5.30pm more than 30 artworks by Ms Bishop will fill the art gallery foyer for the official opening.

The School of Total Education student said putting together the exhibition had been a huge challenge.

"It's been difficult to choose the images I want to display, and for each one I need to have a title and a blurb about what image is about," she said.

"It's made me think about what the inspiration is behind the photos I take.

"Now I think I'm more conscious about why I'm taking each photo and what I'm trying to say."

Ms Bishop said she was thankful of the opportunity to put on a full exhibitition.

"This will be my coming out as an artist," she said.

"I'm nervous but it will be good to see how other people interpret my work differently."
