Young driver has dream to race

MOTOR RACING: Warwick driver Chris Balint isn't planning his life on a career in motor racing but wants to go as far in the sport as he can.

"If it takes me to a racing career, that will be great," he said.

The Scots PGC College student had his first race at age 14.

He was first or second in his races at the weekend in the Short Circuit Motor Sport Association meeting at Morgan Park Raceway.

Chris is driving a Nissan GTIR and competes in sprints at Stanthorpe and in short circuit racing.

At the weekend, he estimated he reached speeds of 180-190kmh.

He sees motor racing as a chance to go fast and have fun.

"We bought the car, put some fuel in it, fitted some sticky tyres and that was it," he said.

"I haven't touched the motor since I started racing last season."

The meeting attracted 133 drivers and association president Fred Berge rated the touring car racing as some of the best seen in recent years.

"The racing was close and we had a lack of panel damage which was good," he said. "There is great camaraderie between the drivers."
