Young man fights conviction without lawyer
WITH a smirk on his face, Joshua Vincent Muller told the Queensland Court of Appeal he would represent himself as he tried to overturn his conviction.
The 19 year old - jailed for driving over a person's foot while more than three times over the legal limit - made his court appearance through video-link from prison.
Legal Aid deemed Muller's appeal had no merit, so he tendered his own written submissions in the Brisbane court on Friday.
Muller and Crown prosecutor Ben Power made no oral arguments.Muller told Justice Robert Gotterson he would just rely on the submissions.
Last year a jury found Muller guilty of grievous bodily harm and he was sentenced to five years jail, to serve a minimum two years.
In November 2012 Muller drove a Toyota Land Cruiser over a man's foot near a boat ramp at River Heads, south of Hervey Bay, injuring his ankle.
Justice Gotterson, Justice Philip Morrison and Justice Jean Dalton reserved their decision to a later date.
