Young creative talents on display at Warwick Art Gallery

YOUNG artists from around the district have won praise for their works on show at the Warwick Art Gallery.

Southern Downs artists aged six to 25 years collaborated to present the BURST Youth Exhibition ,which opened on December 10.

Gallery Director Karina Devine said the exhibition was a showcase of the creativity of young people living in the region, open to entries in all art media including painting, photography, sculpture, film and animation.

"This is the first time we're holding this exhibit," Ms Devine said.

"We had the Southern Downs Regional Artists exhibition earlier in the year and we had a few terrific entries by young people from the region.

"That made us think it would be good to offer more opportunities for young people to display their work, as well as having a chance to show film work from some RADF funded workshops we held in the last school holidays."

The foyer of the art gallery currently features photography by Warwick student Ceilidh Bishop.

Since the opening night on December 10, Ceilidh's work has been praised by fellow residents and visitors to the art gallery.

The School of Total Education student said the exhibition had been a whole new experience.

"It has been an overall amazing experience for me," she said.

"Just for people to see my artwork, and then to have people like it so much that they bought it was just the icing on the cake.

"I had an amazing time at the opening night seeing people's reactions to my own work and then getting to react to the amazing pieces in the gallery myself.

Ceilidh said she had a lot of support behind her throughout the process.

"I had a lot of fun preparing the exhibition and a lot of support from my friends and family," she said.

"It really made the whole experience even better."

Karina Devine said Ceilidh's work had been widely praised.

"We've had a really good response from visitors," she said.

"A lot of the feedback has been that visitors are surprised to have such a young artist on display."

The exhibition will run until January 24.
