Young the best of the Wolves on tough weekend

FOOTBALL: Damien Young was the best as the Warwick Wolves went down in both premier and reserves games at the weekend at Queens Park.

Warwick lost 6-0 to USQ in reserves with Young the best at centre back. Josh Robinson was strong in the midfield for the Wolves and Nick Spence came up from colts to play well in his first game in seniors.

In premier, Warwick lost 3-0 to second-placed USQ.

"Damien Young was our best in goal but I was happy with how we played in the premier game across the park against a quality team,” he said.

Warwick is away to West Wanderers in premier and reserves from 1pm Sunday.

The Wolves colts didn't play on Friday night after the Toowoomba Regional Council banned play on its fields due to the rain.

The colts have a bye this weekend and will then play the President's Cup final against Garden City at a time to be determined.

Coach Tony Cooper said his team was three points in front of Garden City on the points table in the five-team competition.

"It has been a fine effort all season with Declan Murphy, Saxon Charles and Declan Butler the best,” he said.
