Young Water Rats ready

IAN Wallis is upbeat about the hopes of the five Warwick Water Rats junior and teenage teams preparing for 2010 Darling Downs rugby union competitions.

The Warren Stiff coached under-12 side had a recent trial game against Brisbane Brothers at Risdon Oval.

Players were mixed and matched a bit, which was great for the Warwick boys who played with some of the more experienced Brisbane players.

Wallis said he hoped the Warwick U12 side would play a return match at Brothers home ground, Crosby Park, towards the end of the season.

“I want to make it an annual hit-out,” Wallis said.

Warwick will field under-8, U10 and U12 teams starting with an opening carnival at Goondiwindi on March 20. There is no contact (tackling) up to and including U8 rugby.

The first fixture games are likely to be in Warwick on March 27.

Training is at 5.30pm Wednesdays and Fridays and games each Saturday.

The Water Rats will also field two teenage teams, U15 and U17, starting in term two each Sunday. Teenage training is on Monday and Wednesday nights. More players welcome at training or call Wallis on 0427 822 843.
