Youngsters keen to improve park run times

WATCHING Lilly Earl-Jones run around Condamine River in the weekly park run you can tell it is something she does a fair bit.

The 12-year-old Maryvale State School student started participating in park run just two months ago but she has done plenty of running before that.

"A lot of my friends go to park run so I wanted to give it a go," Lilly said.

At the moment Lilly is using park run as part of her training for the forthcoming school cross country.

"The cross country is on next term and I really want to place," she said.

"I love running.

"I train in Maryvale and go for a run once a week and now do park run as well."

The keen runner also plays football for the Warwick Wolves.

Lilly's personal best time for the 5km park run is 28.41 minutes.

She was not the only youngster out on the track on Saturday.

Young Lachlan McPhee finished the course in 26.37 minutes, just shy of his PB, which is 26.12 minutes.

The nine-year-old completed the course with his mum, Elizabeth.

The family was in Warwick visiting family members for Easter.

Children of all ages are encouraged to take part in the park run.

Those aged 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult on the course.
