Youngsters relish big chance in the finals spotlight

GRAND final day might be all about the competitive teams but down at the Warwick Hockey Association on Saturday, there was plenty of action for the littlies.

Two teams of under-7 players, with support from their coaches who were on the field with stick in hand, delighted the crowd in a curtain-raiser to the women's final.

It is the same in most sports. Juniors from the youngest age groups have a go on the biggest day of the year.

The littlies were in the act on the netball court and the same will be the case on Saturday with the Warwick District Football Association junior finals featuring all players.

Summer hockey

THE winter competition might be over but that just opens the door for summer social hockey in Warwick.

Warwick Hockey Association president Gary Millard said seven-a-side games on half fields would be played on Tuesday nights.

"We are looking for individual and team nominations," he said.

"The idea of the summer competition is for new players to be in the same teams as our existing players."

Cost will be $20 for current members and $50 for non-members which covers a season from October 7 to December 9.
