Jharal Yow Yeh backs Darius Boyd in comeback bid

NO PLAYER knows how tough it is to try to make a successful comeback from a bad injury better than former Brisbane Broncos winger Jharal Yow Yeh who has been amazed by Darius Boyd's dedication to getting back on the field.

That will happen tonight against Penrith after Boyd told Broncos coach Wayne Bennett he was right to go following the team's final training session at Red Hill.

Boyd (pictured), who ruptured his Achilles during the pre-season, will make his second coming for Brisbane almost seven years after leaving the club with coach Wayne Bennett for stints with St George Illawarra and Newcastle.

Yow Yeh, who works in a small office behind the goal post on their training field and has seen virtually every step of Boyd's comeback, had his promising career cut down by a savage lower leg and ankle injury which forced him to retire last year following a brave battle to comeback.

He has followed Boyd's recovery closely and told APN the Queensland and Australian representative was looking "very sharp" on the paddock in recent weeks.

"He's been looking really good for a couple of weeks now," he said. "My office is right on the field and it's been a brilliant recovery and I am just so happy for him that he is coming back.

"It's a mental thing for him now. Anything to do with your lower limbs, and I can speak from experience you're worried what will happen if you step this way or that or get hit.

"He looks great at training, he looks amazing, like he's never been away."

Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett, however, was non-committal about Boyd being an automatic pick for Origin.

"You won't see the best of Darius for about a month," Bennett said.

Queensland coach Mal Meninga said this week, if he was available, Boyd would be picked.

"Mal (Meninga) might have said that, but if he is not playing well then he's not going to play well in an Origin game, I can tell you that," Bennett said.

"Let's just wait and see."
