Zoo considers names for new cubs

PLENTY of Southern Downs residents have got involved in naming the new snow white lions at the Darling Downs Zoo.

The seven-month-old male and six-month-old female arrived at their new home at Pilton two weeks ago and are still waiting for the perfect name.

Zoo owner Stephanie Robinson said they were happy with all the names sent through for the cubs and were still going through the many possibilities.

“Sometime next week we will be close to picking some,” Mrs Robinson said.

Some of the standout names the Daily News received were Shilo and Shenzi; Casper and Bianca; Snow and Snowflake; Moonstone and Kimba; Miguel and Minalee.

Resident’s ideas have all been forwarded on to the Darling Downs Zoo.

They will decide on their favourites for the unique African lions.

The white lions are the only ones of their kind in a Queensland Zoo and a white African Lion has not been spotted in the wild since 1990.

Mrs Robinson said the Darling Downs Zoo was thankful for the great suggestions residents sent through to name their new additions.

Stay tuned next week when Mrs Robinson picks the cubs’ names out of your suggestions.
