Zoo keeper in critical condition after crushed by elephant

A TARONGA Zoo keeper was critically injured on Friday when an elephant crushed her against a bollard.

A spokesman for the zoo told reporters the woman, aged in her 40s, was injured and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney.

It is understood the woman was conducting regular training with the elephant.

The zoo began an immediate investigation into the incident.

The zoo spokesman said the woman remained in hospital on Friday but declined to detail her condition.
