Zorko 'needed to be recognised' says All-Australian selector
IT'S taken several seasons, but Brisbane's Dayne Zorko has finally been recognised for his talent.
First it was by the general footy community earlier in the year. Then it was by the All-Australian selectors on Wednesday night with his first jacket.
Despite Brisbane's lack of success in 2017, Zorko had another outstanding individual year, booting 34 goals from 21 games in his classic half-forward/midfield role.
Zorko was also ranked fifth for average metres gained and seventh for tackles.
"Dayne needed to be recognised for his form. Playing in Brisbane, he probably goes a little unnoticed in Melbourne," Richmond champion and All-Australian selector Matthew Richardson said.
"He's the No.1 pressure player in the competition too ... you simply couldn't ignore Dayne's season this year, it was outstanding."
Zorko said he was seen as the "Energizer Bunny" around the Lions.
"I've been able to string together a couple of good pre-seasons ... hopefully this isn't the pinnacle that I've reached and I can keep developing and have some team success along the way," he said.
